Trained in integral psychotherapy, Durwin is also a Certified Integral Therapist. Each of us is internally motivated to feel whole; when we have a concussion, unfortunately, we no longer feel that way. Additionally, we may be struggling with pain, irritability, confusion, and other post-traumatic symptoms. Whatever are your particular symptoms giving you that feeling of being fragmented, Durwin will bring to you his 7 years experience as an anger management specialist and more than 20 years of total professional education. Durwin takes seriously the principle that to be an effective helper, he needs to engage in ongoing professional development and “deliberate practice”. For example, Durwin completed all required doctoral level coursework and practice in supervision, while also performing research on the benefits of mindfulness practice. A recipient of the Mind and Life Institute’s Varela Memorial Award, he was once invited to a conference with His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the topic of contemplative practices and health. Durwin’s most recent professional development has included education in chronic pain management from PainBC, embodied trauma healing, Emotionally-Focused Therapy, the Ideal Parent protocol for resolving attachment insecurities, and Full-Spectrum Mindfulness, an approach that combines mindfulness with developmental psychology to help us to integrate any of our unmet needs from our past. All of these approaches are combined into a counselling approach that is sensitive to our diverse cultural, gender and class identities. An interview of Durwin discussing his approach can be found on Youtube, here. After your concussion, you want to feel whole again, and Durwin can help you get there.

Recovering from a concussion can make the world feel uncertain, as if your sense of safety and stability has shifted overnight. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed by the physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges that follow. But this difficult time doesn’t have to define your future. Instead, it can become the starting point for resilience and renewal. If you’re ready to find your way forward, I am here to support you.

Your path to recovery is personal, and it begins with understanding how your concussion has impacted you—both physically and emotionally. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I will listen closely to your experience and work with you to uncover what will help. There will be days when progress feels slow, and other days when you feel stronger. That’s part of the process, and together we can develop the skills and emotional habits you need to manage the ups and downs of recovery.

I integrate evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help you cope with the emotional effects of a concussion, whether it’s anxiety, frustration, or a sense of loss. As you build emotional resilience, you’ll find that over time, the tools we worked on together will empower you to take control of your own healing. My ultimate goal is to support you until you feel confident moving forward on your own.
